I started Yard Queen to help people realize the full potential of their Southern California gardens and for me that means designing sustainable gardens using climate-appropriate and California native plants. I find the right plant combinations for every garden situation with the goal of putting each plant’s aesthetically-pleasing attributes on full display. In my own garden, I’ve found great pleasure experimenting with native plants to see how they will perform over time but I know a 100% native garden isn't everyone's preference. Through horticultural training and practical hands-on work in gardens I maintain for clients, my plant knowledge is always expanding and non-native climate-appropriate plants can get incorporated into the new gardens I design.
I consult, design, install, and maintain gardens with my team of trained specialists and on larger projects I rely on the help of my preferred trusted colleagues within the professional landscape community. For irrigation and hardscaping needs likes pathways, garden walls and small patios, I bring talented craftsmen and contractors on board, always with the client's goals in mind.
I was born in Los Angeles and grew up in the coastal community of Ventura overlooking the Channel Islands. My knowledge and appreciation of California’s diverse plant life starts there. I’ve enjoyed a long career in the visual arts as a curator, gallery owner, and arts administrator. Now I am a dedicated certified horticulturalist committing myself to the development of my clients' outdoor environments. I live in and largely serve the Pasadena and Northeast Los Angeles neighborhoods of Highland Park, Mt. Washington, Glassell Park and Eagle Rock, but have worked with clients from Ojai to Claremont.
